51 Exercises - Flour Sack Falling (Looped)

My next exercise from the 51 Great Animation Exercises is the Flour Sack Falling.

I'm experimenting with a few things in this. The first is mixing the use of 1's and 2's on the same object. The main body of the bag is on 2's while the corners are on 1's to show them flapping in the wind as the bag falls.
The second experiment is the speed lines in the background. I've never done a quick looping effect like that before. I think I still need some practice with it, but I'm impatient and want to get this up.

51 Exercises - Flour Sack Waving

With my Animation students, I have started on the 51 Great Animation Exercises from AnimatorIsland.com. I think it is a great series of exercises and allows for my students to build complexity in their animations from one exercise to the next by slowly introducing the principles of animation.

In this animation I took the idea for the flour sack waving a little further. Instead of simply a looping waving animation, it is calling out to someone trying to get their attention. That allows me to show off more weight and overlapping action.

I hope you like it!

News 7/5/13

Hi everyone,

Let's see... what to talk about first. Well, I am no longer teaching at Judson High School. Come this fall I will be teaching Video Game Design at Canyon Lake High School. That's not to be confused with Canyon High School which would actually be quite a bit closer to my house. It's a big change and I'm excited.

Since my summer break started I've been trying to do things around the house to give my wife a bit of a break. I'm not sure how successful I've been. It's actually been pretty hectic since we're leaving for India and the Philippines in just a couple days. I've made so many trips to the mall to get stuff, it's not even funny.

What I'm most proud of is all the stuff I've learned about rigging. Big shout outs go to Zeth Willie and his blog as well as Sean Hewitt and his blog. Between the two of them, I've learned how to switch between FK and IK chains as well as set up stretchy IK. The next thing I'm going to tackle is IK/FK matching. I wish there was a "no install" way to do that, but it looks like I can't avoid having to make a button somewhere. I'll just have to show my fellow animator how to do it. (Maybe I can make a Shelf he can install...)

Anyway, all this learning has been for a company I am a 1/4th owner of. Brave Pixel Studios is the name. Be looking for it in the near future!

Mjolnir Mk 6 Helmet

I modeled this Halo helmet a couple years ago and I finally got around to rendering it out.

Running at 100%

I got my email fixed yesterday so you can now email me at kjones (at) kjones3d (dot) com.

It was a pretty easy fix, I just had to get the administrator password for my Google Account reset. After that NameCheap.com has all the MX addresses preset, I just had to point my mail server to Google and tell NameCheap forward my email there.

Happy Memorial Day!

Coming Along

I finally got my domain up and functioning. Email isn't working yet, so if you have one of my business cards, the printed email address won't work just yet. I'm waiting on some more stuff to reset and propagate through the Interwebs before I can jump on that problem.

I'm going to begin posting some older demo reels to start rebuilding my presence on the Web. Please check those out and let me know what you think.

New Home!

Hopefully you'll find this sooner than later. I'm working on switching my domain from my brother's account to my own so he doesn't have to call me every year asking for a check. So if you went to www.kjones3d.com and you're reading this, then the switch has been completed successfully. Until then, getting that working is my number one priority. Check back soon!
